ADHD EVALUATIONS
Adult ADHD Evaluations at Stuart J. Nathan, Ph.D. and Associates
At Stuart J. Nathan, Ph.D. and Associates, we understand how challenging it can be to live with the symptoms of ADHD. Our ADHD Evaluation services are designed to provide clear, accurate, and compassionate assessments that help you or your loved one understand what’s really going on and how to move forward with confidence.
What is an ADHD Evaluation?
An ADHD Evaluation is a thorough assessment that looks at attention, focus, impulsivity, organization, emotional regulation, and other aspects of executive functioning. Unlike a quick checklist or online quiz, our evaluations combine clinical interviews, behavioral observations, standardized testing, and input from caregivers or teachers to form a complete picture.
At Stuart J. Nathan, Ph.D. and Associates, we take the time to truly understand each individual. ADHD symptoms can look different depending on age, gender, and life circumstances. Our team uses evidence-based tools and a thoughtful, whole-person approach to determine whether ADHD—or another condition—is contributing to attention or behavioral challenges.
How Does an ADHD Evaluation Work?
An ADHD Evaluation is a structured process led by trained clinicians and psychologists. Each step is tailored to ensure accuracy, comfort, and clarity. The process may include:
We use standardized tests to assess attention span, memory, problem-solving skills, emotional regulation, and impulsivity. These tools help identify ADHD patterns and rule out other causes.
With your permission, we gather observations from people who interact with you regularly. These insights add valuable context to the testing results.
Once the evaluation is complete, we provide a clear and comprehensive report with a diagnosis (if applicable), treatment recommendations, and strategies for support at home, school, or work.

Why Doesn't Stuart J. Nathan, Ph.D. and Associates Conduct ADHD Evaluations on Minors and Children?
Our practice specializes in providing clear, accurate ADHD evaluations for adults. Because ADHD presents differently across the lifespan, the assessment process for adults is distinct from the process used to diagnose children and adolescents. Adult evaluations focus on current symptoms, workplace or academic challenges, and how long-standing patterns impact daily functioning. This approach allows us to provide targeted recommendations that support success in adulthood.
Evaluating ADHD in children and teens requires a completely different set of tools and expertise. Pediatric assessments involve developmental history, school feedback, family dynamics, and behavioral observations across multiple settings. These evaluations are most effective when conducted by a psychologist who is specifically trained in child development and pediatric mental health. Specialists in this area have a deep understanding of how attention, behavior, and learning evolve from early childhood through adolescence, as well as how to differentiate ADHD from other developmental or behavioral concerns.
Because we want every individual to receive the highest quality care, we limit our assessments to adults 18 and older, and we refer younger clients to qualified pediatric providers. This ensures that children and adolescents receive age-appropriate testing and treatment recommendations that support their long-term well-being and best equip them to navigate their symptoms.
If you need help finding a pediatric specialist, we are happy to provide referrals.
